Mumma’s New Year Mantras: Unveiling the Top Resolutions for 2024!
I’ve never been a big ‘resolution’ person, I always think if there is something big you want to do then just go for it and not to wait until January but this year one thing that has timed well with the new year is realising that my organisation skills are horrendous! This is not ideal, especially now as a single mum I really need to get my ass in gear and find ways to start keeping on top of the endless tasks we have to get done so with that in mind I started looking online at what can help and came across a list of the top resolutions made by us Mums for 2024, actually a really interesting read!
Is yours in the list, if no, what are you hoping to work on for 2024?
1) BANISH MUM GUILT
Unsurprisingly were all fed up with the mum guilt, I just think it’s a natural thing we cannot avoid but I love that this is in the list as a priority, even just being aware of it I think is healthy and a sign that we care! I remember someone telling me that the fact I even worry about being a good mum, makes me a good mum and I never forgot that! One suggestion was to take away the iPad shame, let them have some iPad time if you’re out for dinner so you can actually sit and enjoy a meal for once!
2) SAVING FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE
This is something that probably plays on most of our minds especially just after Christmas, which is always a spenny month, on top of the cost-of-living crisis and everything becoming crazy expensive. I find there a some really great accounts on Instagram to follow with some saving tips that are actually realistic like @moneymumoffical.
3) HEALTHY BODY AND MIND
The classic body image resolution but were pleased to hear this time round it's more about a healthy lifestyle rather than the visual. We are at our best when we are healthy both physically and mentally, one account I love to follow for recipe ideas that are yummy but conscious of nutrition is @emthenutritionist her chicken pie is a fave in our household!
4) DRINK MORE WATER
I think were all guilty of this one! I start my morning with a huge mug of hot water with a squeeze of lemon juice in it to kickstart the day but then sometimes I’ll get to the middle of the afternoon and realise I’ve not had any water since! I got myself a massive flask type cup that I just carry around the house with me and it’s amazing how much more water I’m drinking. I know you can get some great Stanley dupes; I’ve just ordered this one for myself.
5) MORE SELF-CARE AND ‘ME’ TIME
One that we could all do with committing to, but I feel like this is sometimes impossible, I think as a single mum especially, but it really is important. I think this is why sometimes I promise myself an early night and then before I know it its almost midnight and I’m still either scrolling or watching some random crap on TV, for me it’s just the calm and quiet I’m soaking up but then I wake up the next day feeling knackered, so I really need to find the right balance with this particular one! How do you guys do it??
6) FAMILY FOCUS
The health and wellbeing of family members and helping to improve this is high on the list. I actually think this is such a lovely one because it shows just how our maternal instincts transfer over to all family members not just our little ones. This also referenced wanted to work on creating strong family bonds and to spend more quality time with family. I would suggest if you have family that aren’t close to you then you may need to try and schedule ahead, even if it’s a trip to the park or a sleepover with the kids somewhere, planning ahead is key!
7) QUALITY SLEEP
To try and prioritise sleep was a really popular one, I am so guilty of not doing this but like I said earlier, my evenings are my time to catch up on everything and everyone. It’s when I have my adult phone calls or finish work tasks or organise the house and before I know it it’s so late and I’m still not even close to being ready for bed. I’m hoping my newfound organisational attempted skills can help with this so that I can start getting into bed a lot earlier and winding down (without my phone) so I can actually switch off!
I think it’s really important to not get overwhelmed by the new year and the pressures that can bring. Setting unrealistic goals is not going to serve any of us well, that’s why my goal is just simply, to be more organised. That’s something that helps with my day to day but it’s not so restrictive that I’ll be punishing myself down the line for not completing something specific. As this list shows we already have enough guilt to deal with in our lives so let’s not add to that! If your goal is to just finish one book this year or to get to bed half an hour earlier than usual that that’s enough!
Don’t forget to let us know your resolutions or if you have any tips on how to work towards any of the ones above then give us your tips below!!
Happy New Year!!!
